Announcing a New Wheelchair Seating Technology for the Prevention and Treatment of Decubitus Ulcers

Did you know that 50% of all admissions and 8% of all deaths at specialized spinal cord-injury hospitals are due to decubitus ulcers? 1

Tamarack® Habilitation Technologies recently introduced a new wheelchair seating technology – GlideWear, to the complex rehabilitation market to address the lack of effective friction & shear management with wheelchair seating devices. A new GlideWear Seating Interface Technology White Paper addresses prior research on decubitus ulcers, the rapidly growing emphasis on friction & shear as a leading cause, and introduction to GlideWear Seating Interface Technology.

With more than 2.5 million decubitus ulcers treated annually in the United States2, it’s clear that something must be done to prevent this form of skin trauma. It’s important to understand the contributing factors that lead to the formation of decubitus ulcers: pressure, shear, temperature and moisture; in order to prevent & treat their occurrence. Tamarack’s new wheelchair seating technology provides targeted friction & shear reduction under bony prominences, while maintaining wheelchair cushion comfort.

  1. Oh really? It’s great! …actually, the main problem with having wheelchair is the development of Decubitus ulcers which can be lead to another disease….that’s what had happened with my grandma, and now she’s suffering from Diabetes Mellitus due to it…
