A Pair of Running Shoes, A Great Cause and A Short 3,800 Mile Adventure

Earlier this year, we reported on the story of Minnesota-native, Steve Knowlton (44), who had planned a 3,500+ miles run from NW Washington to Key Largo, Florida – all to raise awareness and money for the Crohns & Colitis Foundation.

We’re delighted to say that Steve did in fact complete the solo cross-country run (on November 6, 2010). Congratulations Steve!

Preparing for and completing such an incredible adventure takes its toll on a person’s physical and mental well-being. With the expected life of your average running shoe at 300-500 miles, just think about how many shoes and socks a person would go through – not to mention the risk of ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis and blisters. Tamarack Habilitation Technologies provided Steve with a supply of our ENGO® Blister Prevention Patches. The ENGO® patches help protect against the damaging, blister-causing friction that Steve’s feet would experience along the way.

I emailed Steve yesterday to congratulate him and asked if he had any feedback to share. Here’s what Steve wrote:

Really nice to hear from you, I am recovering well and have put on 18 pounds since I finished my run across America on November 6th.  The Engo patches were remarkable; I was amazed how well they helped keep the friction down for my feet.  These patches are an incredible product and I would recommend the patches to everyone, whether they are walkers or any event that causes friction to your feet.  I wish I had the Engo patches a long time ago when I played basketball, ran cross country and track back in High School and College.

I appreciate Tamarack for donating the Engo patches toward my run. The patches really eased the pain of the day to day wear and tear on my feet and body.  The patches helped alleviate the physical pain so that I could focus more on overcoming the mental endurance of accomplishing this journey.  Thank you very much for your help and support. – Steve Knowlton

We are grateful for Steve’s enthusiasm and are delighted that our ENGO® patches helped to keep him blister-free.
